We are seeking a Research Technician to support the lab of Dr.
Norbert Perrimon in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School.
Overall, the lab seeks to understand how cells, tissues, and organs communicate during development, and how complex phenotypes arise in animals.

eduAbout the Research Technician role:
As the Research Technician, you will work as part of a mid-sized biomedical technology research group within the larger lab developing innovative single-cell RNA-seq and CRISPR-based tools for insect cell lines and in vivo.
You will help generate DNA and RNA reagents used for low- and high-throughput studies within the lab and by others in the biological and biomedical research community.
The ideal candidate would be able to both contribute to our existing molecular biology workflows and help design, scale up, optimize, and/or automate additional workflows based on newly developed CRISPR technologies.
Day-to-day, you will work primarily on individual projects while functioning as part of an integrated, collaborative team and being supported by access to state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and other resources within the lab and at core facilities on our campus.
The ideal candidate is a motivated, well- organized professional seeking a long-term, stable position for at least a minimum of 2-3 years who is passionate about contributing to the lab's full research portfolio.

What you'll do:
Work efficiently and cooperatively with a team of researchers conducting cell-based and in vivo studies, including employing the following:
Cell culture CRISPR-based genome engineering Single cell transcriptomics Use Lab automation and other approaches to help perform molecular biology techniques at large scale (96-well formats) Input reagent and quality analysis information into laboratory information management system Maintain precise records of work and appropriately manage digital data generated in the work Assist with open sharing of know-how and resources with collaborators and with the community at large, such as by preparing detailed protocols or sharing materials with repositories General lab operations support to help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly lab environment as required.
What you bring:
Bachelor's degree in the life sciences.
Previous hands-on experience in a research laboratory is required.
Previous experience with typical molecular biology techniques (PCR, Gibson and other cloning methods, gel electrophoresis, etc.
) and familiarity with underlying scientific principles is preferred.
Previous cell culture experience (mammalian or insect) is preferred.
Previous experience with the Drosophila system would be a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and prioritization skills.
Proactive approach with an eagerness to learn, grow professionally, and be mentored.
Compensation Range:
Research Technician I (hourly) - $17.
08 (minimum) - $21.
35 (midpoint) - $27.
76 (maximum)Research Technician II (annual) - $42,900 (minimum) - $53,700 (midpoint) - $69,740 (maximum)HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data.
HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers.
Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
Physical RequirementsRemaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.
The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).
Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances or other hazardous materials.
